The D-Link DCS-3716/BP is a fixed box-style network camera for indoor surveillance where image quality matters. It uses a Sony Exmor 3 megapixel progressive-scan CMOS sensor to deliver Full HD 1080p video at up to 30 frames per second, with a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536. Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) keeps detail visible in difficult lighting, such as a bright window behind a subject or a doorway with strong backlight. A removable IR-cut filter switches the camera between colour day mode and sensitive night mode, which gives a minimum illumination of 0.5 lux in colour and 0.05 lux in black and white. The camera takes a CS-mount, DC auto-iris varifocal lens (3.1 to 8mm, F1.2), so you can adjust the field of view on site to suit the room or area. It runs on Power over Ethernet (PoE), so a single network cable carries both data and power. Recordings can be saved to a built-in SD card slot or to a network drive. Digital inputs and outputs, two-way audio and an RS-485 interface let it work with sensors, alarms and pan/tilt enclosures. A BNC analogue video output helps with aiming and focusing, and can also feed a public view monitor. The camera is ONVIF compliant, so it works with many third-party recorders and video management systems, and D-Link’s D-ViewCam software for up to 32 cameras is included.

Buyer Guidance: Indoor use. D-Link lists this as an indoor camera. For outdoor installation it needs a weatherproof enclosure, and D-Link offered the DCS-55 (IP66, PoE powered) for this camera. PoE switch or injector. Use an 802.3af-capable PoE switch, or a PoE injector. Otherwise power it from a 12V DC supply. SD card. Cards are not included. Check your card size and class against D-Link’s guidance. Recorder compatibility. ONVIF support lets it work with many NVRs, but test with your own recorder before large installations.
