The D-Link DMC-700SC/E is a one-channel Gigabit media converter that links a copper Ethernet (1000BASE-T) network to a multimode fibre (1000BASE-SX) network, and the other way round. It has one RJ-45 port for twisted-pair cable (up to 100m) and one SC fibre port for multimode cable (up to 550m). That makes it a low-cost way to carry Gigabit traffic between buildings, floors or equipment rooms where copper would exceed its distance limit, or where fibre is preferred for electrical isolation and noise immunity. The converter works at full wire speed. The copper port auto-negotiates duplex mode and detects MDI/MDI-X automatically, so no crossover cable is needed. It can run as a stand-alone unit on an external power adapter, and its compact case suits wiring boxes and small enclosures. Two front-panel LEDs show power and link/activity.
