Identify the network problem first

Poor coverage, insufficient wired ports and a slow internet connection need different fixes. Note the building layout, number of users, devices and existing equipment before choosing a router, switch or wireless system. Replacing a router does not necessarily increase the speed supplied by your internet provider.

Check compatibility and capacity

Compare port speeds and counts, wireless standards and the management features required for your site. Where equipment uses Power over Ethernet, confirm the supported PoE standard and the switch's total power budget. For fibre links, check the cable and transceiver type at both ends.

For coverage across several rooms, browse mesh Wi-Fi systems. Plan battery backup for the network equipment that needs to remain on during a power interruption.
